Learn to Play Hockey with PYH

Interested in Learning to Play Hockey?

Plymouth Youth Hockey has several options for boys and girls who are interested in learning to play hockey.  All are intended for players who have ice skating experience and are independent on their skates. Please see the information below regarding our avenues to learn to play!

Learn to Play (LTP)

This program is designed for players ages 4-8 with previous skating experience and can skate independently.

LTP is an in-house program ran by Plymouth Youth Hockey intended for girls and boys ages 4 to 8 who have previous skating experience but are new to the game of hockey. It is an ideal program for players who have completed a learn-to-skate program and are looking for an introduction to hockey skills and games.

The program runs during the regular hockey season from roughly October to March.  Players will attend two 50-minute, on-ice sessions per week and practices will focus on drills and techniques to improve skating and hockey skills. The season will start in either late September or early October and run through mid-March.

Program cost is $625.

Note: A current USA Hockey confirmation number is required for all players to participate in this program.

Learn to Skate

Start with a good foundation ! We've partnered with FMC Ice Sports ( Wednesdays) and Winterland Skating School (Sundays) to offer Learn to Skate and Jump Start ( Sunday only).  These group lessons are for any participants ages 4 to 15 who wish to learn to skate and will teach the fundamentals needed for hockey. HOCKEY 101

This is an 8 week program designed for players ages 8 and older who are interested in trying the sport of hockey.

Hockey 101 is an introductory hockey program available to both boys and girls ages approximately 8 and older who are new to hockey and skating, but are interested in playing on a team next season. The program runs for six weeks starting in March. The primary focus will be on skating, but we will use sticks and pucks as well. Full hockey equipment is recommended but it is not required. All players should at least have hockey helmets, hockey skates, gloves and sticks.

Program cost is $100.

Note: It is highly recommended that participants have some prior skating experience, either in a learn-to-skate program or own their own. All participants must sign a waiver prior to participating.

GOALIE 101

This program is designed for any player who is interested in learning how to play goalie.

Goalie 101 is a free 5 week program for PYH registered players. The program will focus on basic goalie skills. This is a great way for current skaters to try out the goalie position or for existing goalies who want more skill sessions.

Goalie 101 is offered around April at the conclusion of the regular season. Players must be either a currently registered PYH player or registered for the upcoming season to participate. We have a limited number of loaner goalie pad sets available to the first registered players who need it. The pads are only available to be borrowed for each hourly session.
